Wat Phra Kaew or commonly known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is regarded as the most sacred temple in Thailand. Built under the royal order of King Rama I the Great, the temple is located on the eastern side of the outer court of the Grand Palace. The temple enshrines the famous Emerald Buddha resting on a golden throne. Around the temple on the outside, there are mural paintings telling the story of the Ramayana. No monks reside in the temple, as it is used only for holding royal ceremonies; such as, the royal ordination or coronation ceremonies.
